GROW IT FORWARD

What is Grow It Forward?

This is our way of giving back to the community. Grow it Forward is where people purchase seed packets which are in turn given to families in need to help them grow a garden.

Also, it is our way of honoring the life of a little dog that made such an impact in our lives. Because Max's favorite thing to do (other than sit in his daddy's lap) was to go to the garden, 100% of the proceeds from the purchase of these seeds packets will go to a Dachshund Rescue of our choosing. This is to help with the medical and food costs associated with needing to foster precious little pups like Max until they find their fur-ever family. You can learn more about Max by clicking here

Living Life With Max

A Tribute To a Very Special Dachshund

Life with Max was never dull. Max was a short hair chocolate and tan mini dachshund who was living his best life here at Old Oak Homestead.Max came to us after his original human parents were needing to rehome him. We already had three dogs and a cat, but not taking him was not an option. Max very quickly became part of our family.

Dachshund's are known to choose their person, and Max chose Joseph. All Max wanted to do was to go everywhere with his daddy. He was even content to just be held. But he especially loved riding on the mower and the tractor.

Max loved to eat the blueberries off the bushes and go strawberry picking. If we were not paying attention he would eat green beans straight off the bush. He was obsessed with eating fresh fruit and vegetables out of the garden. He knew the good stuff and was living the good life. He was my gardening buddy.

Out of the blue on a Thursday afternoon, Max started to have seizures. After a spending a few days at the emergency vet, Max came home, but things were not the same. He was getting sicker. We took him to the University of Georgia Veterinary Training Hospital where he had an MRI. We learned that Max had in inoperable cancerous brain tumor that had spread all through his brain. There was nothing that could be done to help him. Max peacefully passed away in our arms with lots of love and kisses at the UGA Veterinary Hospital.

We are heart broken. Max had just turned 5 years old.

It is because Max was such a special part of our family that we want to help other little Dachshunds in need. This is why we will donate 100% of the profits to a Dachshund Rescue of our choice from every purchase of seeds from "Grow it Forward".

Please consider giving generously.

We have two main goals.

Firstly we want to be able to help someone grow food who otherwise may not have been able to so.

Secondly, we want to help Dachshund Rescue Services who need help covering medical and food costs.

In this small way, we help grow communities where both people and dachshunds can thrive.

We will work with local and regional groups such as The Salvation Army, Red Cross, Food Banks, seed Libraries, local schools and other community organizations to help identify individuals or families in need. It is through these partnerships with community organizations that we will donate the seeds you have so generously purchased to individuals and families in need.
